A new building for Athabasca University

The ARC project contract signing took place at the offices of Manasc Isaac Architect in Edmonton on Dec 5th, 2008.

The University President, Dr. Frits Pannekoek signed the ARC Contract with Mr. Tom Redl, President of Chandos Construction, the general contractor responsible for the construction of the new ARC building. The signing was witnessed by Athabasca-Redwater MLA Jeff Johnson. Also in attendance at the signing were the University's Project Manager, Wayne E. Ferguson and other members of the architect's design team.

Chandos was the successful bidder for the construction of the new ARC building besting 2 other bid contenders.

With the addition of this world leading research facility Athabasca University is reinforcing its position in the distance education landscape and continues to promote our ongoing working relationship with the Athabasca community," said Dr. Pannekoek.
"I'm proud to have been involved with the project and representing the support of the Athabasca Red Water constituency," said Jeff Johnson.

"Now that we have reached this major milestone I look forward to the successful completion of this project on time and on budget," said Mr. Ferguson.

The new $30 million dollar ARC will increase space on the AU campus by nearly 50%. Funding for the new facility was announced in August, 2007 by the Honourable Doug Horner, Alberta's Minister of Advanced Education and Technology.
