The ARC project contract signing took place at the offices of
Manasc Isaac Architect in Edmonton on Dec 5th, 2008.
The University President, Dr. Frits Pannekoek signed the ARC
Contract with Mr. Tom Redl, President of Chandos Construction, the
general contractor responsible for the construction of the new ARC
building. The signing was witnessed by Athabasca-Redwater MLA Jeff
Johnson. Also in attendance at the signing were the University's
Project Manager, Wayne E. Ferguson and other members of the
architect's design team.
Chandos was the successful bidder for the construction of the new
ARC building besting 2 other bid contenders.
With the addition of this world leading research facility Athabasca
University is reinforcing its position in the distance education
landscape and continues to promote our ongoing working relationship
with the Athabasca community," said Dr. Pannekoek.
"I'm proud to have been involved with the project and representing
the support of the Athabasca Red Water constituency," said Jeff
Johnson.
"Now that we have reached this major milestone I look forward to
the successful completion of this project on time and on budget,"
said Mr. Ferguson.
The new $30 million dollar ARC will increase space on the AU campus
by nearly 50%. Funding for the new facility was announced in
August, 2007 by the Honourable Doug Horner, Alberta's Minister of
Advanced Education and Technology.
